A flatbread made with a sheet of frozen puff pastry is a simple way to pull off something impressive for your guests this holiday season. And this flavor combination has always been one of my favorites: pear and walnut, dotted with some goat cheese.
Pear and Walnut Flatbread
1 sheet frozen puff pastry
1 cup walnuts
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Pinch of cinnamon
8 ounces goat cheese, crumbled
To make, thaw frozen puff pastry, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush it with some olive oil.
Toast walnuts in a large, dry skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, or until fragrant and slightly brown. Set aside on a paper towel or plate.
Slice pears, then saute them in the same skillet used for the walnuts with some butter, brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Cook for about 5 minutes, until soft and caramelized. Let cool slightly, then spread pears over the puff pastry.
Top pears with goat cheese, crumbled, and the walnuts. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bake in a 400-degree oven for about 12 minutes, until cheese melts and crust is golden and puffy.
